Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a 2012 Indian drama film written and directed by Yash Chopra. It stars Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, and the late Rishi Kapoor in his last appearance. The movie was produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films. It premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival on 20 May 2012.[1][2][3][4] The film's story follows the life of Ramesh (Shah Rukh Khan), an interior decorator who falls in love with fellow driver Sara (Katrina Kaif). After a brief courtship, the two get married, but their happiness is short-lived as Sara is diagnosed with a brain tumour. Ramesh promises to do anything for Sara to get her well again. In the meantime, rich businessman Ratan Tata (Anil Kapoor) lands in Mumbai from London on a private jet. His car breaks down, and he seeks help from Ramesh. Before leaving Mumbai to continue his business trip, Ratan gets Ramesh's phone number and calls him later for interior designing work at his home in London. Ramesh's driver friend Sher Singh (Rishi Kapoor) takes Ratan to meet his employer and potential employer respectively during the trip. Ramesh gets an offer from Ratan to design his home in London. Ramesh immediately accepts the offer and uses that opportunity to propose Sara for marriage, which is accepted by both their families. On the day of the wedding, Sara is rushed to the hospital; having run out of money, they need money for treatment. Ramesh's businessman father (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) takes him on a visit to Ratan's home in London, where Ratan tells his son how he had lost his wealth due to interest payments during India's debt-ridden economy decade. He becomes intrigued with Ramesh's work and gives him a credit card signed by Ratan. He asks Ramesh to pay the hospital bills and take Sara out for a ride around London. After visiting Paris and Berlin, Ramesh and Sara go to Venice, where their car breaks down during a sudden thunderstorm. They decide to book a room in a nearby hotel, and while driving there, they get stuck in traffic due to flooding caused by the storm. This causes them to miss their flight and get stranded in Venice for two days. Their time together in Venice is short-lived as Sara develops complications from her tumour. Her condition deteriorates quickly over the next few days, forcing Ramesh to take her back home. In a last-ditch effort to save Sara's life, Ramesh takes her to London for a second opinion from a renowned brain surgeon. The surgery does not work and Ramesh has no choice but to take her home. However, the surgery is not fatal and she survives for a few more days before succumbing to the cancer. As he grieves over his deceased wife, Ramesh makes peace with his father and returns to Mumbai in a taxi, where he lives with Sher Singh forever afterwards.
